I was posed with a design challenge to create an addition to my family’s house that allowed spectacular views of the backyard and let all of the natural light shine in. The house by and large is handsome and old english in nature so I didn’t want to design a typical all white room with white trim etc. I wanted to allow the room to look as if it had been there from the beginning. Also, I wanted to trick the eye into seeing through the window casing- by staining everything a dark stain, the eye doesn’t stop at the window… nature is brighter than the stain. Another fun thing to point out is the old wooded settee that you see the before and after pictures. It turned out to be the neatest sofa ever. Click on the images to keep zooming in!
